Kemkemia
Kemkemia is an extinct genus of abelisaurid theropod dinosaur that lived in what is now Morocco during the Late Cretaceous period (Cenomanian stage, approximately 95 million years ago). The genus is known from fragmentary remains, primarily vertebrae, discovered in the Kem Kem Beds, a geological formation renowned for its diverse fossil fauna. The exact classification and validity of Kemkemia as a distinct genus are subjects of ongoing debate within the paleontological community due to the incompleteness of the fossil material. Some researchers suggest the remains may belong to a previously known abelisaurid, while others maintain its separate status based on subtle morphological differences in the vertebrae. Further discoveries and analyses are needed to fully clarify the taxonomic position of Kemkemia. Its co-existence with other large theropods in the Kem Kem Beds, such as Spinosaurus and Carcharodontosaurus, suggests a complex and potentially highly competitive ecosystem.
