Angle Peak (Alberta)
Angle Peak is a mountain located in the Spray Valley Provincial Park within the Canadian Rockies of Alberta, Canada. It sits on the eastern side of the Spray River valley, approximately 16 kilometers (10 miles) south of Canmore.
The peak is notable for its sharp, angular summit, from which it derives its name. Its geological composition is primarily sedimentary rock, common to the region. While not the highest peak in the area, Angle Peak offers notable views of the surrounding Spray Valley and the more prominent peaks further west.
Reaching the summit of Angle Peak typically requires a strenuous hike or scramble, with significant elevation gain. There are no maintained trails to the summit, making navigation skills and backcountry experience essential. Climbers should be aware of potential hazards, including steep slopes, loose rock, and wildlife encounters.
The area surrounding Angle Peak supports a variety of alpine flora and fauna. Common wildlife includes deer, elk, bighorn sheep, and occasionally bears. Conservation efforts are ongoing to protect the natural environment of Spray Valley Provincial Park.
