Down Home (TV series)

Down Home was an American situation comedy that aired on NBC during the 1990-1991 television season. The series starred Judith Ivey as Watts Bowman, a single mother who moves back to her small Texas hometown after leaving a high-powered career in New York City.

The show revolved around Watts reconnecting with her family, including her eccentric mother Charlene (Charlotte Rae), and adjusting to the slower pace of life in the rural South. Much of the humor stemmed from the clash between Watts' sophisticated city sensibilities and the more traditional values and behaviors of the people in her hometown. Supporting characters included her childhood friends and new acquaintances.

Down Home was created by Eileen Heisler and DeAnn Heline. Despite featuring a well-known cast and a premise designed for broad appeal, the series struggled in the ratings and was cancelled after one season consisting of 19 episodes. While not a critical darling, the show maintained a small but loyal following.
