USS Spark (1813)
The USS Spark was a brig in the United States Navy during the War of 1812. Built in Sackett's Harbor, New York, in 1813 by Henry Eckford, she was commissioned in September of that year with Master Commandant Thomas Gamble in command.
Spark's initial assignment was to patrol Lake Ontario, engaging in operations against British vessels and providing support to the American army. She participated in the blockade of Kingston, Ontario, a major British naval base.
In 1814, Spark was involved in several engagements with British vessels. She played a role in the capture of several smaller British ships, contributing to the overall American naval effort on the lake. After the conclusion of the War of 1812, Spark remained in service on the Great Lakes for a period.
Later, Spark was reassigned for service elsewhere. She served in the Mediterranean Squadron, protecting American commerce and interests in the region. She participated in various patrols and demonstrations of force.
Spark was eventually decommissioned and sold.
