Zhexi Dam

The Zhexi Dam (柘溪水库大坝), also known as the Zhexi Reservoir Dam, is a major concrete gravity dam on the Zi River (资水) in Anhua County, Hunan Province, China. Its primary purpose is hydroelectric power generation, but it also provides flood control, irrigation, and navigation benefits.

Construction of the dam began in 1958 and was completed in 1960. The reservoir created by the dam, Zhexi Reservoir, is one of the largest artificial lakes in Hunan province. The dam is notable for its relatively early construction during China's Great Leap Forward period.

The dam's dimensions are significant. It stands at a height of approximately 89 meters (292 feet) and has a crest length of around 850 meters (2,789 feet). The reservoir has a storage capacity of approximately 3.7 billion cubic meters.

The Zhexi Dam plays an important role in the regional economy, supplying electricity to Hunan Province and contributing to the overall water resource management of the Zi River basin.
