Josef Beck (politician, born 1877)
Josef Beck (born October 11, 1877, in Warsaw, Poland, then part of the Russian Empire; date of death unknown) was a Polish politician and lawyer. He served as a member of the Polish Sejm (Parliament) between 1919 and 1927, representing the Polish Socialist Party (PPS). Beck was a prominent figure within the PPS's right wing and advocated for a more pragmatic approach to national politics.
His political career involved a significant shift away from revolutionary socialism towards a more moderate, nationalistic platform. He was a supporter of Józef Piłsudski's May Coup in 1926 and subsequently became an undersecretary of state in the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare. His later activities remain largely undocumented, leading to the lack of a confirmed date of death. Historians note his involvement in the early years of the Second Polish Republic and his association with the evolving political landscape following World War I. His early career demonstrates the diverse range of political ideologies present within the Polish independence movement.
