Tambourin

A tambourin is a type of small, shallow drum, typically a long, narrow cylinder, traditionally used in Provence, France. It is played with one hand, while the other hand plays a galoubet (a small fipple flute). The tambourin provides the bass line and rhythmic foundation for the galoubet melody, creating a characteristic sound of Provençal folk music.

The tambourin is often associated with traditional Provençal dances and festivities. It is held vertically, strapped to the player's wrist or forearm, and struck with a single beater, usually a wooden stick. While traditionally played with a galoubet, it can also be used as a percussion instrument in other musical contexts. The word "tambourin" can also refer to a style of Provençal folk dance that utilizes the tambourin and galoubet.
