Twenty pence (Irish coin)

The twenty pence coin was a denomination of the Irish pound, introduced in 1986 and withdrawn from circulation upon the adoption of the euro in 2002. It was smaller and thinner than the equivalent UK twenty pence piece. The coin was made of cupro-nickel and featured a depiction of an Irish Red Deer stag designed by Gabriel Hayes on the obverse (heads) side, and the Irish harp on the reverse (tails) side along with the denomination "20p" and the Irish word "Éire" (Ireland). The coin was intended to fill a gap in the coinage and reduce the need for lower denomination coins and banknotes. It circulated widely during its lifespan and was a common component of everyday transactions in Ireland.
