Skot (unit)

A skot is an obsolete Swedish unit of measurement, primarily used for land area. Its value varied regionally. Generally, it represented a fraction of a tunnland, another Swedish land unit. There was no single, universally defined value for a skot.

The relationship between a skot and a tunnland depended on local custom and the type of land being measured. In some areas, a skot might be 1/4 of a tunnland, while in others, it could be 1/8 or even a smaller fraction. The exact proportion was determined by historical practice within a specific locality or agricultural region.

Because of its varying definition, using skot as a measurement is now largely historical and its precise equivalent in modern units (like square meters or hectares) requires referencing specific historical records that define its value for the location in question. The ambiguity of the term makes direct conversion without contextual information impossible. Its usage has been superseded by standardized metric units.
