Cedar Creek Reservoir (Texas)
Cedar Creek Reservoir is a reservoir located in Henderson and Kaufman Counties, Texas, approximately 60 miles southeast of Dallas. It is the fourth largest lake in Texas, with a surface area of approximately 32,623 acres and a storage capacity of around 640,000 acre-feet of water.
The reservoir was created in 1965 with the construction of the Cedar Creek Dam on Cedar Creek, a tributary of the Trinity River. The dam and reservoir were built and are operated by the Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD) to provide water for the Fort Worth metropolitan area.
Cedar Creek Reservoir is a popular recreational destination, offering opportunities for boating, fishing, swimming, and other water sports. The lake is known for its populations of largemouth bass, crappie, catfish, and white bass. Several parks and campgrounds are located around the reservoir's shoreline.
The towns of Kemp, Tool, Mabank, and Seven Points are located near the reservoir and benefit economically from tourism and recreation activities associated with the lake. Water levels can fluctuate depending on rainfall and water demand. The Tarrant Regional Water District monitors and manages the reservoir's water levels.
