John Dalrymple (died 1742)
John Dalrymple (died 1742), also known as John Dalrymple of Drummore, was a Scottish politician and lawyer. He served as a Member of Parliament for Wigtown Burghs from 1722 until 1734.
Little is known about his early life. He was the son of Sir Hew Dalrymple, 1st Baronet of Drummore, and his wife Marion Hamilton. He followed his father into the legal profession, becoming an advocate.
His parliamentary career was marked by his support of the government. He was a loyal Whig and generally voted with the administration on key issues. He did not stand for re-election in 1734.
Dalrymple held the estate of Drummore, which had been established as a baronetcy by his father.
He is reported to have died in 1742. Further details regarding his personal life, such as marriage and children, are currently scarce in readily available historical records.
