Robert Honywood (Essex MP)
Robert Honywood (1601-1686) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1654 and 1685, representing Essex.
Honywood was the son of Sir Robert Honywood of Pett and Marks Hall, Essex, and his wife Alice Barniston. He inherited the Marks Hall estate. He was a zealous Parliamentarian during the English Civil War, and his lands were sequestered and then restored.
He was elected Member of Parliament for Essex in 1654 for the First Protectorate Parliament. He was re-elected MP for Essex in 1656 for the Second Protectorate Parliament and in 1659 for the Third Protectorate Parliament.
After the Restoration, Honywood remained active in Essex politics. He was elected MP for Essex in 1660 for the Convention Parliament, in 1661 for the Cavalier Parliament and in 1685 for the Loyal Parliament.
Honywood married Frances Vane, daughter of Sir Henry Vane the Elder. He was succeeded by his son, also named Robert Honywood.
