John Plumptre (priest)
John Plumptre (baptized 21 December 1721 – 19 February 1791) was an English clergyman and academic. He was the son of John Plumptre (1679–1751), a Member of Parliament, and Anne Newstead.
Plumptre was educated at Eton College and King's College, Cambridge, where he matriculated in 1738 and graduated BA in 1743, and MA in 1746. He was elected a Fellow of King’s College in 1741 and held the position until his death.
He served as Rector of Teversham, Cambridgeshire, from 1748, and was appointed Archdeacon of Ely in 1754, a position he held until his death. He was also a prebendary of Ely Cathedral. He was known for his learning and piety. He died unmarried.
