War and Love (1985 film)
War and Love is a 1985 American drama film directed by Moshé Mizrahi and starring Sebastian Saville, Kyra Sedgwick, and David Dukes.
The film is based on the novel of the same name by Isaac Bashevis Singer. It tells the story of Herman Broder, a Holocaust survivor haunted by the loss of his family, who immigrates to America and becomes entangled in complicated relationships with three different women: Masha, his obsessive and unstable wife, Tamara, his first wife who he believed to be dead, and Wanda, a Polish Catholic woman who offers him solace.
Set primarily in post-World War II America, the narrative explores themes of trauma, guilt, faith, and the struggle to rebuild a life after unimaginable loss. It delves into the psychological and emotional toll of the Holocaust on survivors and their subsequent search for meaning and connection in a new world. While attempting to reconcile his past and present, Herman grapples with the complexities of love, loyalty, and identity in a society vastly different from the one he left behind. The film received mixed reviews upon its release.
