Here & Now (musical)

Here & Now is a musical with music by ABBA members Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, lyrics by Björn Ulvaeus, and a book by Becky Mode. It is not an original musical in the traditional sense, but rather a revised and re-contextualized version of ABBA's existing song catalog, similar in concept to Mamma Mia! Unlike Mamma Mia!, Here & Now was specifically written for and about ABBA, incorporating fictionalized elements of their real-life experiences and career.

The musical premiered in Sweden in 1999, running for a limited engagement. Due to licensing and the success of Mamma Mia!, Here & Now has not seen subsequent major productions. It focuses on the tensions and triumphs experienced by a globally successful pop group and their inner circle, exploring themes of fame, creative differences, and the pressures of maintaining a public image. While the specific plot details are not as widely disseminated as those of Mamma Mia!, the musical attempts to provide a more intimate, if fictionalized, glimpse into the lives of the band members and the challenges they face.
