Christine (1958 film)

Christine is a 1958 West German drama film directed by Pierre Gaspard-Huit, based on the 1924 play Liebelei (also known as Affairs of Love) by Arthur Schnitzler. It stars Romy Schneider as Christine Weiring, Alain Delon as Franz Lobheiner, and Micheline Presle as Lena Eggersdorf.

The film is set in Vienna, Austria, in 1906. Christine is a young musician who falls in love with Franz Lobheiner, a handsome young lieutenant. Franz is already involved in a relationship with a married woman, Lena Eggersdorf. The complications arising from these relationships lead to tragic consequences. Christine is known for its romantic atmosphere and tragic love story, as well as its lush cinematography. The film helped cement the careers of both Schneider and Delon as international stars. It is a remake of Max Ophüls's 1933 film of the same name, which was also based on Liebelei.
