Caproni Ca.6

The Caproni Ca.6 was an experimental biplane aircraft designed and built by Italian aviation pioneer Gianni Caproni in 1911. It is notable for being one of the earliest attempts at a fully monocoque (stressed skin) aircraft construction. While not entirely successful, the Ca.6 represented a significant step in the evolution of aircraft design. Its monocoque fuselage, built of layered wood, aimed to provide both structural strength and aerodynamic efficiency, a departure from the more common braced frame structures of the time. Details regarding its engine and performance are scarce, but it is known that the Ca.6 flew, though its career was short-lived. The aircraft's design heavily influenced later Caproni designs, contributing to the company's legacy in early aviation history.
