Infinite (film)

Infinite is a 2021 American science fiction action film directed by Antoine Fuqua. The screenplay, written by Ian Shorr, is based on the 2009 novel The Reincarnationist Papers by D. Eric Maikranz. The film stars Mark Wahlberg, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sophie Cookson, Jason Mantzoukas, Rupert Friend, Liz Carr, and Dylan O'Brien.

The plot revolves around Evan McCauley (Wahlberg), a man suffering from mental illness who discovers that his hallucinations are actually visions from past lives. He is approached by a group called the "Infinites," individuals who can recall their past lives and have been reincarnating for centuries. These Infinites are divided into two factions: the "Believers," who want to use their knowledge to improve humanity, and the "Nihilists," led by Bathurst (Ejiofor), who believe that reincarnation is a curse and seek to end it.

Evan is revealed to be the reincarnation of a Believer known as Heinrich Treadway, who possesses crucial information that Bathurst desperately wants to obtain. The film follows Evan's journey as he learns to embrace his past lives, unlock his memories, and help the Believers prevent Bathurst from destroying the cycle of reincarnation.

The film explores themes of reincarnation, destiny versus free will, and the potential for both good and evil that exists within humanity. It was originally scheduled for a theatrical release but was ultimately released on Paramount+ in June 2021.
