Lush Life (Linda Ronstadt album)
Lush Life is a jazz-influenced album by American singer Linda Ronstadt, released in 1984. It marked a departure from Ronstadt's established country-rock and pop sound, showcasing her interpretation of classic jazz standards and Tin Pan Alley songs. The album was a collaboration with arranger Nelson Riddle, who provided the orchestrations.
The album's title, Lush Life, comes from the Billy Strayhorn composition of the same name, which is included on the track list. While not a commercial blockbuster like some of Ronstadt's previous albums, Lush Life was critically well-received and demonstrated her versatility as a vocalist. It was followed by two further albums in a similar style, For Sentimental Reasons (1986) and Cry Like a Rainstorm - Howl Like the Wind (1989), also featuring Nelson Riddle arrangements.
Key tracks on Lush Life include "When I Fall in Love," "Falling in Love Again," "Skylark," and the title track, "Lush Life." The album is considered a significant entry in Ronstadt's discography, highlighting her appreciation for and ability to perform traditional jazz repertoire.
