Echo Lake (Franconia Notch)
Echo Lake is a small, glacially formed lake located in Franconia Notch State Park in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, United States. Situated at the base of Cannon Mountain and across from the Old Man of the Mountain site (before its natural collapse), it is a popular destination for recreation and sightseeing.
The lake is renowned for its exceptionally clear water and, as its name suggests, its notable echoes, particularly from the surrounding cliffs. Visitors can experience the echoes by shouting or making noise across the lake's surface.
Recreational activities at Echo Lake include swimming (at a designated beach area), canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. A paved path surrounds the lake, providing easy access for walking and biking. Boat rentals are typically available during the warmer months.
The lake is easily accessible from the Franconia Notch Parkway (Interstate 93). The Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway is located nearby, offering stunning views of the surrounding area, including Echo Lake and the rest of Franconia Notch.
