HMAS Brisbane (D 41)

HMAS Brisbane (D 41) was a Perth-class guided missile destroyer of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). Laid down in 1965 and commissioned in 1967, she was the second of three ships in her class, which were based on the United States Navy's Charles F. Adams-class destroyers.

Brisbane served extensively during her career, including deployments to Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. She performed escort duties for the aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne and provided naval gunfire support to troops ashore. During her service in Vietnam, Brisbane was subjected to frequent harassment from North Vietnamese coastal artillery.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Brisbane participated in numerous exercises and patrols in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. She underwent several refits and upgrades to improve her capabilities and extend her operational life. Notably, she participated in the RAN's 75th Anniversary celebrations in 1986.

HMAS Brisbane was decommissioned in 2001. After decommissioning, she was scuttled off Moreton Island, Queensland, in 2005 to create a dive wreck and artificial reef. The wreck has become a popular dive site, attracting divers from around the world.
