The Work and the Glory (film series)
The Work and the Glory is a film series based on the historical fiction book series of the same name by Gerald N. Lund. The films depict the fictional Steed family as they grapple with the events surrounding the early days of the Latter Day Saint movement in the 1820s and 1830s in New York state and later in Missouri.
The film series consists of three installments:
-
The Work and the Glory (2004): This film focuses on the Steed family's initial introduction to Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. It depicts the social and religious tensions arising from the new faith.
-
The Work and the Glory: American Zion (2005): This sequel chronicles the Steed family's move to Ohio and their subsequent struggles as they attempt to establish a community of Latter-day Saints.
-
The Work and the Glory: A House Divided (2006): The final film portrays the growing conflicts between the Latter-day Saints and their neighbors in Missouri, culminating in acts of violence and persecution against the church members.
The film series received mixed reviews, with some praising its depiction of historical events and its family-friendly content, while others criticized its acting, production values, and perceived bias. The films were independently produced and distributed.
