Sorites (journal)

Sorites was a peer-reviewed electronic journal dedicated to analytical philosophy. It was published from 1995 to 2005. The journal’s stated focus was on publishing high-quality philosophical work that was accessible to a wide audience. It covered a broad range of topics within analytical philosophy, including metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, and logic.

One of the distinguishing features of Sorites was its electronic format, making it freely available online at a time when this was less common for academic journals. This open access model aimed to broaden the reach of philosophical research.

The journal's name derives from the sorites paradox, also known as the paradox of the heap. This paradox highlights the difficulty of defining vague concepts and boundaries, such as "heap," "tall," or "bald." The editors chose this name to reflect their commitment to exploring philosophical problems that arise from vagueness and related issues.

Although Sorites ceased publication in 2005, its archives remain a valuable resource for philosophical scholarship. Back issues are still accessible online, providing a snapshot of analytical philosophy during the late 1990s and early 2000s. The journal made a contribution to the accessibility of philosophical research during its active years.
