Samuel Woods (priest)

Samuel Woods (1816-1899) was an Anglican priest in England during the 19th century. He was known for his long tenure as Vicar of St. Peter's Church, Swinton, near Rotherham, in the West Riding of Yorkshire.

Woods was born in 1816 and educated at St John's College, Cambridge, graduating in 1838. He was ordained as a deacon in 1839 and as a priest in 1840. His early clerical career involved curacies in various parishes.

He became Vicar of St. Peter's, Swinton, in 1848, a position he held until his death in 1899. During his time in Swinton, he oversaw changes within the parish, and the local population significantly increased due to the area's industrial development. Records indicate his involvement in local education and charitable works. He is buried in the churchyard of St. Peter's, Swinton.
