Oldoini

Oldoini is a name of Maasai origin, meaning "mountain of whiteness" or "white mountain." It is most notably associated with Ol Doinyo Lengai, an active volcano located in the Gregory Rift, south of Lake Natron in Tanzania. Ol Doinyo Lengai is unique for being the only volcano known to erupt natrocarbonatite lava, which is much cooler than silicate lavas and appears black or dark brown in the daylight. The name reflects the mountain's appearance due to the white soda ash that covers its slopes after eruptions. The term "Oldoini" can also refer more generally to other geographical features or places significant to the Maasai people and exhibiting similar characteristics of whiteness or mineral deposits.
