Ruth Dyer

Ruth Dyer (1877-1939) was an American landscape painter and printmaker, primarily known for her depictions of the Southwest, particularly California and New Mexico. Born in Chicago, Illinois, she studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and later with William Merritt Chase. Dyer moved to California in the early 20th century, drawn to the region's natural beauty and vibrant light. She was a member of several prominent art organizations, including the California Art Club and the Laguna Beach Art Association, and exhibited her work widely. Her paintings often featured scenes of the California coast, mountains, and deserts, characterized by her impressionistic style and use of color. Dyer's etchings and block prints also gained recognition, showcasing her technical skill and artistic versatility. Her work is held in several museum collections.
