Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson (singer)
Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson (born June 26, 1945, died July 3, 1978) was a popular Icelandic singer, primarily known as one half of the duo Hljómar, later known as the Icelandic rock band Brunaliðið.
Vilhjálmur, often nicknamed Villi, was born in Reykjavík. He formed Hljómar with his brother Gunnar Þórðarson in 1963. Hljómar became one of the most influential and popular bands in Iceland during the 1960s, playing a key role in the development of Icelandic rock and roll. They were particularly known for their energetic live performances and covers of popular British and American rock songs, as well as their own original material.
After Hljómar disbanded, Vilhjálmur continued his musical career, eventually forming Brunaliðið with Gunnar. He was admired for his powerful and emotive vocals, and his stage presence contributed greatly to the band's success.
Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson died at a relatively young age, leaving behind a significant legacy in Icelandic music history. His contributions to Hljómar and Brunaliðið are still celebrated and his music continues to be enjoyed by audiences in Iceland.
