Mühlbeck
Mühlbeck is a village and a former municipality in the Wittenberg district in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It was merged with several other municipalities to form the town of Gräfenhainichen in 2011. Mühlbeck is situated approximately 10 km south of Gräfenhainichen.
Historically, Mühlbeck was an independent municipality with its own local government and administration. Its history is intertwined with the surrounding region of Saxony-Anhalt, sharing in its economic and social developments. The name "Mühlbeck" likely derives from a combination of "Mühle" (mill) and "Bach" (brook), indicating the presence of a mill near a brook or small river. The village primarily relied on agriculture and small-scale industries.
Following the German reunification, significant efforts were made to modernize infrastructure and improve living conditions in Mühlbeck. However, facing demographic changes and the need for more efficient administration, Mühlbeck, along with other villages, was integrated into the town of Gräfenhainichen. As part of Gräfenhainichen, Mühlbeck retains its local character and continues to contribute to the overall community.
