Thomas Lucy (died 1640)
Thomas Lucy (died 1640) was an English politician and landowner. He was the son of Sir Thomas Lucy of Charlecote Park, Warwickshire, and Dorothy Arnold. He inherited Charlecote Park upon his father's death in 1600.
Lucy served as a Member of Parliament for Warwickshire in 1614 and 1621. He was also a Justice of the Peace for Warwickshire. He is known for his role in local affairs and for continuing the family's prominence in the county.
While the Lucy family is famously associated with a story alleging William Shakespeare was caught poaching deer on their land, the historical accuracy of this tale is debated by scholars. No definitive contemporary evidence supports the claim, and it may be a later embellishment.
Thomas Lucy (died 1640) married Alice Spencer, daughter of Sir John Spencer of Althorp, and they had several children, including Sir Thomas Lucy (1614-1685), who inherited Charlecote Park after his father's death. His descendants continued to reside at Charlecote Park for centuries.
