SBB (band)

SBB (originally Silesian Blues Band) is a Polish progressive rock band formed in 1971 in Siemianowice Śląskie. They are considered one of the most important and influential bands in the history of Polish rock music, known for their instrumental prowess, extended improvisations, and fusion of rock, blues, and jazz elements.

The original lineup consisted of Józef Skrzek (vocals, bass, keyboards, harmonica), Apostolis Anthimos (guitar), and Jerzy Piotrowski (drums). This core trio remained the band's backbone throughout their most successful period.

SBB gained significant popularity in Poland and Eastern Europe during the 1970s. They toured extensively and released a string of critically acclaimed albums, including Nowy Horyzont (1975), Pamieć (1975), SBB (1974), often referred to as SBB I, and Follow My Dream (1978). Their music often featured extended instrumental sections showcasing the individual talents of the band members. Skrzek's distinctive vocals and philosophical lyrics, often sung in Polish, were also a key part of their sound.

Following a period of inactivity in the 1980s, SBB has reformed several times with varying lineups. While Józef Skrzek remains the central figure, Apostolis Anthimos and Jerzy Piotrowski have participated in reunion projects and recordings. SBB continues to tour and release new material, maintaining a loyal fanbase both in Poland and internationally. They are recognized for their significant contribution to the development of progressive rock in Eastern Europe.
