Clydebank F.C. (1914)

Clydebank F.C. (1914) refers to a former Scottish football club based in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire. The club was formed in 1914 as a successor to the original Clydebank F.C., which had been controversially relocated to Edinburgh and renamed Edinburgh Hibernian in 1916 during the First World War.

Clydebank F.C. (1914) aimed to maintain a footballing presence in the town after the perceived loss of the original club. They were admitted to the Scottish Football League in 1923, competing in the lower divisions. The club played its home matches at Kilbowie Park.

Throughout their existence, Clydebank F.C. (1914) primarily competed in the Second Division (later First Division) and occasionally the Third Division. They experienced periods of relative success, including promotion challenges and cup runs, but never reached the top tier of Scottish football.

The club faced financial difficulties on numerous occasions. Ultimately, in 1965, the club was forced to sell Kilbowie Park to the Scottish Football Association due to mounting debts.

In 1966, Clydebank F.C. (1914) entered into an agreement with Jack Steedman, who acquired control of the club with the intention of transferring their league membership to a new club based in Dumbarton. This resulted in the formation of Dumbarton F.C. (1967). The Clydebank F.C. (1914) ceased to exist at this point, effectively merging into the new Dumbarton club.

A new Clydebank F.C., unaffiliated with the original, was formed in 2003 and currently competes in the West of Scotland Football League. This new club considers itself a continuation of the footballing tradition in Clydebank, but is distinct from the Clydebank F.C. (1914) which was involved in the transfer to Dumbarton.
