Charles Dight (New South Wales politician)
Charles Hilton Dight (1847 – 1935) was an Australian politician who served as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, representing the districts of Singleton (1894-1904), Maitland West (1904-1907) and Upper Hunter (1913-1920).
Dight was born in Paterson, New South Wales, and educated at The King's School, Parramatta. Before entering politics, he was a pastoralist. He was initially elected to Parliament as a Protectionist candidate for Singleton. He aligned himself with the Progressive Party following its formation. In 1913, he returned to Parliament as a member of the Liberal Party representing Upper Hunter, a seat he held until his retirement in 1920. He was a strong advocate for agricultural interests throughout his parliamentary career. He died at his home in Muswellbrook in 1935.
