Robert Metcalfe (Hebraist)
Robert Metcalfe (fl. 1560) was an English clergyman and Hebraist. Very little is known about his life. He is primarily remembered for his linguistic expertise, particularly his proficiency in Hebrew. Metcalfe is known to have been part of a group of scholars during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I who actively promoted the study of Hebrew. His contributions, while not widely documented, are believed to have fostered a deeper understanding of the Hebrew language and its literature within English academic circles of the period. Further research is needed to fully elucidate the extent and impact of his work.
