James Baker (Canadian politician)
James Baker (born c. 1830, died 1906) was a Canadian politician. He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) representing the electoral district of Victoria, British Columbia, from 1892 to 1904. He was a Conservative party member. Prior to entering federal politics, Baker was involved in local politics and business in British Columbia. His political career was marked by his advocacy for British Columbia's interests within the Canadian Confederation, particularly regarding issues of infrastructure development and resource management. He was the brother of Clement Francis Cornwall, also a prominent figure in British Columbia politics who served as the Lieutenant Governor of the province. His legal background further influenced his political career, allowing him to contribute to parliamentary debates and legislation. After leaving federal politics, Baker remained in British Columbia.
