Elisapie
Elisapie Isaac (born December 19, 1977), most commonly known mononymously as Elisapie, is an Inuk Canadian singer-songwriter, broadcaster, documentary filmmaker, and activist. She is notable for blending Inuit folk traditions with contemporary pop, rock, and electronic elements.
Elisapie was born and raised in Salluit, Nunavik, Quebec. Her music often addresses themes of Inuit culture, identity, and the challenges faced by Indigenous communities in Canada. She sings in English, French, and Inuktitut.
Her career began in the early 2000s, and she has since released several albums, including "There Will Be Stars" (2009), "Travelling Love" (2012), and "The Ballad of the Runaway Girl" (2018), which won the Juno Award for Indigenous Music Album of the Year in 2019. She has also received nominations for the Polaris Music Prize.
Beyond her musical career, Elisapie has worked in broadcasting, hosting radio programs on CBC Radio, and has directed documentary films, including "If You're a Man" (2008), which explores gender roles in her community. She is a prominent voice for Inuit rights and cultural preservation in Canada.
