Hong Meng
Hong Meng (鴻蒙), also romanized as Hongmeng, is a term originating from Chinese mythology and philosophical traditions. It refers to the primordial state of chaos and undifferentiated wholeness before the creation of the universe and the separation of Heaven and Earth. It is a concept that signifies the origin of all things and the ultimate source of existence.
In Taoist cosmology, Hong Meng represents the unmanifest potentiality from which all forms and phenomena emerge. It precedes the Taiji (太極), the Great Ultimate, and is considered the root of all transformations. Philosophically, it embodies a state of perfect unity and non-duality, free from any distinctions or limitations.
The term is often used in Chinese literature and poetry to evoke a sense of mystery, vastness, and the origins of creation. It represents a realm beyond human comprehension and a source of profound inspiration.
More recently, the term "Hongmeng" has gained recognition as the name of Huawei's operating system, also known as HarmonyOS. The choice of this name reflects the company's ambition for the operating system to serve as a foundational platform connecting various devices and creating a unified ecosystem. The name aims to evoke a sense of fundamental creation and interconnected harmony, mirroring the original meaning of the term.
