George Tibbits (composer)

George Tibbits (born November 29, 1933) is an American composer and arranger known primarily for his work in film and television music. He has also composed and arranged for choral and instrumental ensembles.

Tibbits studied composition with Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco and orchestration with Earle Hagen. He began his career working in the music departments of various television studios, contributing to scores for numerous popular shows.

His television credits include significant contributions to the music of series such as Star Trek: The Next Generation (including the iconic "Inner Light" episode), Dallas, Dynasty, and Falcon Crest. He is known for his ability to create a wide range of musical styles, from dramatic orchestral scores to lighter, more contemporary pieces.

While much of his work remains within the realm of television and film scores, Tibbits has also composed concert works for various ensembles. His contributions have been recognized with awards and nominations throughout his career.
