USS Alacrity (MSO-520)
USS Alacrity (MSO-520) was an Aggressive-class minesweeper of the United States Navy. Laid down on 16 November 1955 by the J. M. Martinac Shipbuilding Corporation of Tacoma, Washington, Alacrity was launched on 16 June 1956 and commissioned on 27 November 1957.
As an Aggressive-class vessel, Alacrity was designed to detect and neutralize naval mines, clearing sea lanes for military operations and maritime commerce. These ships were characterized by their non-magnetic construction, primarily using wood and other non-ferrous materials in the hull and machinery to reduce the risk of detonating magnetic mines.
Alacrity served actively with the U.S. Navy for over three decades. During her service, she participated in various exercises and deployments, contributing to mine countermeasures operations worldwide. She was particularly involved in operations during the Vietnam War era.
Decommissioned on 24 July 1992, Alacrity was struck from the Naval Vessel Register on 17 November 1992. She was subsequently sold for scrapping. The ship's legacy lies in her contribution to naval mine warfare and her role in maintaining the security of maritime routes.
