Lake Anza

Lake Anza is a man-made freshwater lake located within Tilden Regional Park in the Berkeley Hills, above Berkeley, California. It is a popular destination for swimming, picnicking, and hiking.

History: The lake was created in the 1930s by the East Bay Regional Park District as part of the development of Tilden Regional Park, utilizing a natural depression.

Recreation: Lake Anza offers several recreational activities. Swimming is permitted during designated hours and seasons, with lifeguards on duty. A sandy beach surrounds part of the lake. Picnic areas with tables and barbecues are available. Numerous hiking trails of varying difficulty levels crisscross the area surrounding the lake, providing access to panoramic views and other park features. Fishing is also allowed with a valid California fishing license.

Environment: The lake supports a variety of wildlife, including waterfowl, fish, and amphibians. The surrounding area features diverse plant communities typical of the California coast range.
