Royal Rumble (2009)

The 2009 Royal Rumble was a professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It took place on January 25, 2009, at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan. It was the twenty-second annual Royal Rumble event and featured wrestlers from the Raw, SmackDown, and ECW brands.

The main event was the Royal Rumble match, a 30-man battle royal where participants are eliminated by being thrown over the top rope with both feet touching the floor. The winner receives a world championship match at WrestleMania 25, against the champion of their choice.

Other matches on the card included: John Cena versus John "Bradshaw" Layfield (JBL) for the World Heavyweight Championship; Edge versus Jeff Hardy for the WWE Championship; Melina versus Beth Phoenix for the WWE Women's Championship; and Jack Swagger versus Matt Hardy for the ECW Championship.

The Royal Rumble match was won by Randy Orton, earning him a championship match at WrestleMania 25. The event drew approximately 41,704 attendees.
