Osdorp
Osdorp is a borough (Dutch: stadsdeel) of Amsterdam, Netherlands. Located in the western part of the city, it was established as an independent municipality in 1921 and incorporated into Amsterdam in 1956.
Originally a rural area, Osdorp experienced significant urban expansion in the 1950s and 1960s as part of Amsterdam's "Garden Cities" (Dutch: Tuinsteden) initiative, designed to alleviate housing shortages and provide green spaces for residents. The borough is characterized by its planned layout, with distinct neighborhoods, parks, and waterways.
Key features of Osdorp include the Sloterplas, a large artificial lake used for recreation, and the Osdorpplein, a major shopping and commercial center. The borough also houses a variety of cultural and community facilities.
Administratively, Osdorp has undergone changes over time. As part of Amsterdam, it is governed by a borough council (Dutch: stadsdeelcommissie). Osdorp is home to a diverse population.
