Swamp Thing (video game)

Swamp Thing is the title of two distinct video games based on the DC Comics character of the same name.

The first game, simply titled Swamp Thing, was released in 1992 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and the Game Boy. Developed by Imagineering Inc. and published by THQ, these versions are side-scrolling action platformers where the player controls Swamp Thing. He utilizes his powers of manipulating plant life and his own physical strength to defeat enemies and navigate the levels. The NES version is more elaborate, featuring a wider range of moves and enemies compared to the Game Boy version, which has a simpler design geared toward the handheld's limitations. In both, Swamp Thing is fighting Anton Arcane and his Un-Men.

The second game, Swamp Thing, was released in 1993 for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. This version was developed by Probe Software and published by Acclaim Entertainment. It shares the side-scrolling action platformer genre with the earlier games but presents a darker and more mature tone, reflecting the darker themes often explored in the Swamp Thing comic books. This version featured more graphic violence and a more complex storyline, again focused on Swamp Thing battling Arcane and his minions. It also included the ability to transform Swamp Thing into different plant-based forms, each with unique abilities.
