Talk Radio (film)

Talk Radio (film) is a 1988 American drama film directed by Oliver Stone, based on the 1987 play of the same name by Eric Bogosian and Tad Savinar, as well as the book Talked to Death: The Life and Murder of Alan Berg by Stephen Singular. Bogosian also co-wrote and starred in the film, playing the lead role of Barry Champlain, a controversial and confrontational radio talk show host in Dallas, Texas.

The film explores themes of free speech, censorship, societal alienation, and the media's influence on public opinion. Champlain, known for his abrasive and often offensive on-air persona, uses his radio show to provoke and challenge his listeners. As his show gains popularity and is syndicated nationally, the increasing pressure and threats from extremist callers intensify, leading to a tragic climax. The film examines the psychological toll that Champlain's provocative style takes on him, blurring the lines between his on-air persona and his real self.
