Dettah
Dettah is a small, primarily Indigenous community located on an island in Great Slave Lake, Northwest Territories, Canada. It lies just southeast of the city of Yellowknife, the capital of the Northwest Territories. Dettah is a Dene community, and its residents are primarily of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation. The community is accessible by road in the winter via an ice road across Great Slave Lake. During the open water season, access is by boat or air. Dettah maintains a distinct cultural identity and way of life, separate from Yellowknife, although it is closely linked economically and socially to the larger city. Fishing, hunting, and trapping are important traditional activities for many residents. The population is relatively small, typically numbering in the low hundreds.
