Neil Young (footballer, born 1944)

Neil Young (born 17 February 1944, Manchester, England; died 3 February 2011) was an English professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He is best known for his time at Manchester City, where he was a key member of their successful team of the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Young joined Manchester City as an apprentice in 1960 and made his first-team debut in 1961. He went on to make over 400 appearances for the club, scoring 108 goals. He was instrumental in City's League Championship win in 1968, scoring the winning goal in the final game of the season against Newcastle United.

He also played in City's FA Cup-winning team of 1969, scoring the only goal in the final against Leicester City. Young's other honours with Manchester City included the League Cup in 1970 and the European Cup Winners' Cup in the same year.

After leaving Manchester City in 1972, Young played for Preston North End, Rochdale, and Droylsden before retiring from professional football. He later worked as a transport manager. He died in 2011, aged 66, after a battle with cancer. He is remembered as a Manchester City legend and one of the club's greatest players.
