Crieff

Crieff is a market town and civil parish in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. Historically, it was an important droving centre, where cattle were bought and sold. Crieff lies on the Strathearn valley road between Perth and Comrie.

History:

The town's origins can be traced back to the early medieval period. Crieff developed as a centre for livestock trading, particularly the Crieff Tryst, a large annual cattle market held until the 1770s. This market attracted drovers from the Highlands and Lowlands, bringing thousands of cattle for sale. The droving trade significantly influenced Crieff's growth and prosperity.

During the Jacobite rebellions of the 18th century, Crieff was associated with Jacobite sympathies, and it was burned by government troops in 1716. The town later rebuilt and continued to develop as a local centre for trade and services.
