Ndimbi
Ndimbi is a term primarily used in the Rukiga language (also known as Chiga or Kiga), spoken in southwestern Uganda and parts of Rwanda. It generally refers to the act of gossiping, backbiting, or spreading rumors about someone. The term carries a negative connotation, highlighting the disapproval of speaking ill of others behind their backs. Ndimbi is considered socially undesirable behavior within the Rukiga culture. The severity of the offense can vary depending on the nature and impact of the gossip. It often contributes to interpersonal conflict and can damage reputations. In Rukiga-speaking communities, efforts are made to discourage Ndimbi and promote more direct and honest communication.
