Bjelogorci (Pale)

The term "Bjelogorci" (meaning "White Highlanders" or "White Mountaineers") refers to the Serbian population originating from and/or residing in the Pale region of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Pale is a municipality located east of Sarajevo, within Republika Srpska. The term historically distinguished them from other regional populations, often carrying connotations of a distinct local identity and cultural characteristics associated with the mountainous terrain. This identity is deeply intertwined with Serbian Orthodox Christianity and the history of the region. During the Bosnian War (1992-1995), Pale served as the political and military center of the Republika Srpska. The term "Bjelogorci" may also be used more generally to refer to people originating from the broader mountainous areas surrounding Pale.
