19th Battalion (Central Ontario), CEF

The 19th Battalion (Central Ontario), CEF was an infantry battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) during the First World War. Authorized on 7 November 1914 and formed at Toronto, Ontario, it embarked for Great Britain on 13 May 1915.

Upon arrival in England, the battalion formed part of the 4th Infantry Brigade, 2nd Canadian Division. It disembarked in France on 15 September 1915 and fought in France and Flanders until the end of the war.

The battalion was notable for its significant contributions in major battles such as the Somme, Vimy Ridge, Passchendaele, and the Hundred Days Offensive. It sustained heavy casualties throughout the war.

The 19th Battalion was commanded by several officers during its service, including Lieutenant-Colonel J.A.W. Allan, Lieutenant-Colonel H.D. Lockhart Gordon, and Lieutenant-Colonel R.F.B. Taylor.

The battalion was disbanded on 30 August 1920.

The perpetuation of the 19th Battalion (Central Ontario), CEF was assigned to The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada (Princess Louise's).
