I, the Jury (1982 film)

I, the Jury is a 1982 American neo-noir action thriller film directed by Richard T. Heffron, based on the 1947 novel of the same name by Mickey Spillane. It stars Armand Assante as private investigator Mike Hammer and Barbara Carrera as Dr. Charlotte Blessing. The film is a remake of the 1953 film, also titled I, the Jury, which starred Biff Elliot as Mike Hammer.

The plot follows Mike Hammer's investigation into the murder of a close friend, a war veteran, whom he vowed to protect. Hammer's pursuit leads him through a dangerous web of suspects, including a beautiful psychiatrist, a corrupt businessman, and various underworld figures. As he gets closer to the truth, Hammer becomes increasingly violent and ruthless in his pursuit of justice, ultimately uncovering a shocking conspiracy.

The 1982 film is notable for its graphic violence and sexual content, which were more pronounced than in the earlier adaptation. It was released to generally negative reviews, with critics often citing Assante's portrayal of Hammer as unconvincing and the film's overall tone as excessive. Despite the criticism, I, the Jury has gained a cult following over the years, particularly among fans of neo-noir cinema. The film’s soundtrack was composed by Lalo Schifrin.
